AK Valley Archives

1/13/04 - Freeport Station 70, South Buffalo Station 220, Harrison Hills Station 40, Buffalo Station 27, West Leechburg Station 53 Truck, and Saxonburg Station 15 were dispatched to an apartment building on Market Street for reported smoke in the building. Fire crews found smoke upon arrival. The source was determined to be from a coffee can of cigarette buts smoldering inside the front door. (Pictures by Kristine Kuhn).

12/7/03 - The AK Pulser Paramedic Response Unit from Allegheny Valley Hospital was responding to a call around 4:30pm when the driver lost control on Pleasantville Road in Harrison Township. The vehicle struck a patch of ice and climbed a 15-foot hillside and then went over the other side down approximately 100-feet into Little Bull Creek. No significant injures were reported and the vehicle suffered only minor damage.

8/2/03 - Multi-alarm structure fire in West Tarentum. Crews were called around Noon to the fire that consumed two structures. A cat was rescued from the structures. (Pictures by Kenn Cortese).

       

3/16/03 - Commercial Structure Fire on Fifth Street in Freeport Borough. The fire began on the third floor of the 100-year old building that housed a business on the first floor and apartments on the other two. The fire quickly engulfed the entire third floor and the roof. Four Freeport firefighters were injured in a flashover while trying to make the initial attack on the fire. All injuries were minor and the firefighters were back at the scene to assist after evaluation at Allegheny Valley Hospital. The building suffered severe structural damage and had to be demolished. 2/24/03 - Citizens Hose Station 268, Harrison Hills Station 269, and Citizens Hose EMS were dispatched to a Vehicle Crash with entrapment on Freeport Road in front of Station 269. Crews arrived to find a car halfway under a pickup truck. The patient in the car was trapped for approximately 15 minutes. Icy roads were reported to be the cause of the accident.

5/25/01 - Motor vehicle crash on Route 28/66 near the town of Distant. One patient was pronounced at the scene. (Pictures by Pete Frejkowski and Becky Myers).

       
   

6/13/01 - Residential Structure Fire in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue in the City of New Kensington. The fire spread to three houses before it was extinguished.

7/9/02 - Residential Structure Fire in the 300 block of Freeport Road in the City of New Kensington.

4/25/03- The following pictures are from a huge structure fire in the 1500 block of Third Avenue in Arnold, Westmoreland County. It involved 3 structures and the fire burnt for over 2-1/2 hours.

1/30/01 - Fully involved Church Fire in the Natrona section of Harrison Township. The former St. Joseph's Church had been closed for some time after it merged with other churches in the area. The building was still used for storage and was a total loss. The fire was found to be accidental.
