Structure
Fire - Tarentum Borough (5/7/2003)
Tarentum Dispatch alerted Summit Hose Station 282,
Eureka Hose Station 281, Highland Hose Station 280 and Eureka EMS at 1:41am for
a structure fire in a duplex on West Seventh Avenue. Dispatch had received several
calls for this fire. Off duty Fawn Township Police Officer Jeff Mravintz was
passing by when he noticed the fire also. Officer Mravintz, with the help of
a local bar owner, rescued the elderly resident from the residence. The two men
dashed into the flames and located the woman in the second floor bedroom, carrying
her to safety before fire units arrived. 282 C1 arrived on scene and reported
heavy fire and smoke from the structure. Crews fought an aggressive interior
attack and the fire was placed under control at 2:20am. No injuries were reported.
The elderly female was evaluated by EMS but did not require transport. The residents
of the other half of the duplex were not home at the time of the fire. The Allegheny
County Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze which caused an estimated $75,000
in damages. The fire is believed to be started by candles left burning in the
unoccupied part of the structure.
