Vehicle Accident - Hampton Township (7/20/2003)

At approx. 21:50, Newcom 911 and Northwest 911 both began receiving multiple calls about an accident on Duncan Avenue. As more reports came in, it was learned that there was a serious accident with multiple injuries. Hampton Station 164, North Hampton Station 165 and McCandless-Franklin Park EMS were alerted. Initial units found a head-on type collision between a Saturn and a Ford Explorer. One patient was trapped in each vehicle, two patients were lying on the roadway and two children were in the arms of bystanders. The passenger of the Saturn was flown to a trauma center by Life Flight. Shaler EMS, Ross/West View EMS, and Peebles Station 188 assisted. The passenger of the Saturn required 30 minutes of extrication and the driver of the Explorer required about 20 minutes of extrication. Bystanders reported that the driver of the Saturn was driving at a high rate of speed and in the wrong lane.

I received an email from the passenger of the Saturn at Christmas time (2003). He was in the hospital for 2 months and suffered a broken neck, head bleed, lacerated liver, and a lacerated kidney. He is getting back into his normal routine and is now walking again after having metal rods placed in both his legs and right arm. This article originally stated that he was the driver of the Saturn but in fact was the passenger. The article has been updated.
