Accident - S. Fayette Township (7/7/2003)
On Monday, July 7th, at 17:56, County Communication Dispatched
Oakridge (Station 269), Sturgeon (Station 267) and SouthBridge EMS (Station 815)
to a reported MVA with possible entrapment at the intersection of Battleridge
Road and Robinson Run Road in South Fayette Township. South Fayette Police
were first on scene confirming 3 patients with 1 confirmed entrapment. Rescue
crews arrived on scene within 5 minutes of dispatch. Upon arrival they
found a 2 car head on collision between an SUV and a 4-door station wagon. One
female patient was ejected and one male patient was entrapped under the dashboard
of the station wagon. Chief 269 and Assistant Chief 267-1 commanded the
rescue operations. EMS crews tended to the ejected female while rescue
crews began the stabilization and extrication process. Crews removed both
front doors, performed a 3/4 removal of the roof and lifted the dash using
rams. Pt. was successfully extricated and packaged for transport to the trauma
center. South Fayette (Station 266) was originally dispatched to set up
an LZ, but the medical helicopters were grounded due to heavy storms. Oakdale
(Station 215) was put on stand-by to cover open areas. Oakdale Police and
Collier Police also assisted with scene control.
