House Explosion - Economy Borough (7/31/2003)

Just after 10:00am, Economy Station 69 was dispatched for a reported explosion and fire on Shaffer Road. First arriving units found heavy fire already through the roof. There were no injuries reported and the occupants of the house were not home at the time. The cause is believed to be a gas line that was ruptured by crews installing sewage lines in the area. Bell Acres, Ambridge, and Baden Fire Departments assisted. All bystanders and media were kept back about a half a mile from the scene for several hours until the gas lines could be shut down and the area checked for a potential second explosion.

Novak would like to thank Bob and Tom Sivewright for getting him close enough to take the pictures.
