Residential Structure Fire - Economy Borough (4/9/2004)

Firefighters from three communities battled this blaze just before midnight in the 100-block of Pinehurst Drive in Economy Borough, PA. Economy Fire Department, along with Economy EMS, was dispatched on the initial alarm.

First arriving police units reported heavy smoke showing from the split-level, residential structure, and reported that at the present time the fire was confined to the basement and garage areas of this residence.

However, the fire quickly spread to the rest of the structure. Command soon requested additional units from neighboring Big Knob (New Sewickley Township) and Conway Fire Departments.

The fire was declared under control just after 1:00 a.m. More than 50 firefighters remained on the scene for several hours performing cleanup. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
