About Us

In the afternoon hours of Saturday July 18th, 2004, Baltimore City Fire Department, and Baltimore Police responded to a Physical Rescue at Port Discovery in the Inner Harbor Area. Units arrived on scene to find a Helium Hot Air Balloon approximately 350 feet in the air with 10-15 people trapped on it. Units on scene immediately called for Rescue Squad 1 and other Specialized Rescue equipment. The balloon was attached to a cable winch used to bring it back to the ground. A wind storm had popped up and started to blow the balloon all around, even tearing part of a roof off of a nearby building. After approximately 90 minutes the balloon was brought back to the ground by the Fire Department on scene. Four of the people on the balloon were injured and transported to the hospital via Ambulance, and the rest were luckily un hurt.

Units Responding: Engines 6 & 23 Trucks 1,2,5 Rescue 1, Special Operations Unit, Battalion 6 & 2 , District Chief 1, Safety Chief, Public Information Officer, and numerous other Chief Officers, Medics 9, 37, 20, 19, 4, EMS 5, Baltimore Police Emergency Services Unit, and Baltimore City Police
