Crash - Bell Township (4/30/2005)
At 11:15am, Bell Township Station 67, Avonmore
Station 55, Saltsburg Station 131, Lifestat EMS Station 90, and Avonmore EMS
station 600 were dispatched to Route 981 near Bell Plan Drive for a vehicle accident
with injuries and entrapment involving a tractor trailer. EMS from Station 600
arrived on scene and confirmed one male patient trapped. Stat MedEvac 2 out of
Greensburg was placed in the air. Rescue-Engine 67-1 arrived, stabilized the
vehicle, and began extrication through the driver's side door. The crew was assisted
by personnel from Rescue 131.
The roof was going to be removed but the patient's
condition deteriorated rapidly. The roof evolution was halted and the dash was
lifted. The patient was rapidly extricated and CPR was intitiated. The patient
was transported via Medic 97 to Latrobe Hospital with the crew from MedEvac 2.
The patient was revived and flown to UPMC Presbyterian where he died a short
time later from his injuries.
Responding Units were: Rescue-Engine 67-1, Brush
67, Engine 131-2, Rescue 131, Squad 55, Medic 97, Medic 601, Stat MedEvac 2,
and Pennsylvania State Police.
