Disaster
Drill - PNC Park (5/7/2005)
Units
from all over Western Pennsylvania took part in a Disaster Drill held at PNC
Park. Fire, EMS, Police, Rescue, Hazmat, USAR and Personnel from many Federal
Agencies including FBI, Homeland Security, CIA, etc. took part in this
drill. City of Pittsburgh Units responded to a report of an explosion
at the Park. Chief Officers arriving on scene found a Mass Causality Incident
involving almost 6500 people. The Initial Commander then requested Mutual Aid
be struck for the call and subsequently responded when instructed to by the structured
command system. Mass Decontamination was set up and conducted on the patients
and many were transported to local hospitals for further evaluation. Units
operated on scene for almost 5hours. During the operation at PNC Park,
the PA USAR Strike Team 1 was activated and responded to another location to
take part in another situation that was more geared towards USAR.
It
truly was a very interesting experience for all who participated. Not only
did those who participated get to work with other agencies that they would not
normally get to work with, You also got to see the resources that are available
in this region to be utilized in an emergency situation.
