Residential Structure Fire - Marion Township (6/4/2005)

On Saturday, June 4 at approximately 10:30pm Big Knob Station 26 was dispatched for a possible structure fire on Ben Venue Road in Marion Township.  While enroute Chief 2610 heard Marion Township Police Chief advise dispatch that he could see fire above the tree line.  At around the same time Harmony EMS advised that they were on scene with a two story farm house fully involved.  Chief 2610 advised dispatch to dispatch Daugherty Township Station 86, Zelienople Station 22 (Butler County), Harmony Station 23 (Butler County), and Evans City Station 20 (Butler County) for tankers.  He also had Cranberry Station 21 (Butler County) dispatched for RIT response.

Upon arrival Chief 2610 confirmed a working fire.  Shortly after arrival the structure began to collapse.  Engines 261 and 262 arrived and put their deck guns into operation.  Engine 261 laid a 5 inch supply line and Tanker 265 pumped water to Engine 261.  Upon partial knock down it was advised that there was a vehicle in the driveway.  Chief 2610 advised dispatch to notify the police to run the plate number and check for the resident's place of employment to see if he was at work.  Upon contacting the brother it was learned that the resident was out of state.  PA State Police Fire Marshal's Office was notified and is investigating.  The house was a total loss along with an out building and the resident's car.  All units were back in service at 4:30am.
