Residential
Structure Fire - Indiana Borough (8/23/05)
At around 8:50am on August 23rd, Indiana Fire Association Station 100 was
dispatched for a residential structure fire with possible entrapment on Washington
Street in Indiana Borough. 100 Asst. Chiefs 1 & 2 arrived and reported smoke
showing. Crews arrived on scene and found a 2-stroy residential structure with
heavy smoke showing from the first and second floors on Side D. Engine 104 laid
in and split the crew for fire attack and search and rescue. Tower 101 arrived
next and laddered the building. Then they split the crew for ventilation and
an additional attack line while Engine 106 went to staging. Interior crews reported
the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes and rescued two dogs from the second
floor. Crews operated on scene for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
It was determined that one of the dogs was chewing on a parachute flare when
it launched behind the entertainment center. Fire damage was contained to the
dining and living rooms with smoke damage to the entire structure.
