Structure Fire - Whitaker Borough (11/20/05)
At approximately 19:45 hours, West Mifflin Communications began receiving
numerous calls of heavy smoke in the area of Whitaker Way near Grant street.
Whitaker Station 298 and West Mifflin Station 293 were dispatched on the first
alarm as well as Whitaker PD and Prism EMS Station 670.
First arriving PD units found the basement well off. The single-family dwelling,
balloon construction home, was found unoccupied. Upon Engine 298's arrival, 298C1
assumed command and immediately requested a 2nd alarm, bringing West Mifflin
Station 294's engine and air truck and Homestead Station 171's go team and manpower
to the scene. Braddock Station 113 was requested to transfer to Station 298 to
cover their district. EMS 670 responded with 2 ALS units.
Units on scene: Eng 298 (additional manpower was able to walk across the street
from their station), Quint 293, Engine 293, Air 294, Engine 294, Truck 171, Engine
171, Squirt 171, Squads 171, 294, 293, ALS 672 & 673, Munhall & Whitaker
PD, and the Salvation Army.
The incident was declared under control by 298C1 at approximately 20:50 hours.
No injuries were reported. The Allegheny County Fire Marshall's office is investigating
the cause of the fire.
