A pleasure boat with 8 individuals on board went over the 21 foot high Highland
Park Dam along the Allegheny river which threw the individuals into the water.
The accident resulted in the boat's owner dead and a 19 year old female relative
missing. Fire and River Rescue crews from Pittsburgh, Blawnox,Verona, Penn Hill,
Millvale, Oakmont and Harmar have spent the holiday weekend looking for the girl
who is missing and believed to be trapped by the rapids and back toe caused by
the dam. The boat's keel is still visable in the river which is running high
and fast and is extremely muddy, which is complicating the search along with
the fact the 3 Rivers Regatta is going on at the point in downtown Pittsburgh.
Many boaters are wondering how this accident even happened and the Pa Fish and
Boat Commission is investigating.
