Fatal MVC with Entrapment &
Ejection - Muddy Creek (01/21/2008)
January 21st, 2008 - Muddy Creek Twp, Butler County,
PA -- At approximately 06:29 Harmony Station 23 and Harmony EMS
Station 62 was dispatched to a personal injury collision with injuries
on Interstate 79 at the 93 mile marker northbound, Lancaster Township.
Chief 23 was first to arrive and notified Butler County Communications
that the accident was actually in Muddy Creek Township and requested
Portersville Station 24 and Portersville EMS Station 64 to be alerted.
Chief 23 then updated incoming EMS and rescue crews that he had
an overturned SUV with one patient entrapped and another patient
ejected. Rescue 23 arrived behind EMS crews and was ordered to begin
stabilization and to start extrication. The ejected occupant was
DOA and was pronounced by EMS crews. A roof flap was performed in
order to extricate the driver. Rescue crews stabilized the vehicle
and extricated the patient in 9 minutes, once the patient was extricated
he was placed into the back of the medic unit and was transported
to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries.
