05/15/2004 - New Eagle (Washington County) - Fatal MVA

Main Street

At approximately 1:25 AM on Saturday May 15, Washington County Station 14 (New Eagle) was dispatched to a vehicle accident invovling a vehicle striking a pole with the vehicle on fire on main street near the 7-11 in New
Eagle. As Engine 14-2 and Rescue 14 called in service, Washington County Control reported that a second call back reported that there is entrapment. Both Engine 14-1 and Rescue 14 arrived on scene approximately 30 seconds later. Upon arrival, EMS requested that all firefighters remain in their respective apparatus. Engine 14-2 proceeded to direct traffic at the intersection of Rt 88 and Rt 837 while Rescue 14 was requested to proceed onto scene for lighting and extrication equipment. Also, when New Eagle apparatus arrived on scene, EMS was in the process of loading one of the occupants of the vehicle into the ambulance. The occupant was believed to be ejected from the rear window of the vehicle. Lifeflight was requested to land at New Eagle LZ #1, the Roosevelt Administration Building. Engine 14-1 called in service to handle the LZ. Firefighters remained on scene nearly 5 and a half hours as the County Coroner Tim Warco pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead, and while a State Police accident reconstruction team investigated the accident.
