12/12/2004 - Pitcairn Structure Fire

Third Street

On Dec 12, 2004 at approximately 0745 Pitcairn Stations 229, 230, Trafford Station 311 (Westmoreland Station 86), Pitcairn EMS and Pitcairn Police were alerted to a possible structure fire at 549 and 553 Third Street. Police arrived on scene with heavy fire showing between 549 and 553 and made several civilian rescues. A second alarm was called for by Chief 230 upon advisement from ERC of a working fire with possible entrapment bring Monroville Truck 4 (Truck 194 with Rescue 194 and a medic unit for support) to the scene. A third alarm was called for bringing Monroeville Rescue 1(Rescue 192)and Wilmerding Station 306. A fourth alarm was called for bringing Monroeville Station 3 (Station 193) and Turtle Creek Station 283 for manpower. United Volunteer F&R Truck 287 was transferred to Station 229 for stand-by. The fire was brought under contol in just over 2 hours and the last unit left the scene in just over 4 hours. No injuries or casualties were reported and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
