Fire
Blawnox Sportsman Club
The historic Blawnox Sportmans Club along
Freeport Rd Old 28 which has been in buisness for over 60+ years suffered severe
damage to its upper floors when a woman renting an upstairs apartment apparently
left a candle burning which tipped and caused the fire. Firefighters from Blawnox,
Ohara, Sharpsburg , Aspinwall and other departments assisted in the fire which
was extremely hard to put out as aerial apparatus could not be positioned in
place due to high tension wires and the clubs old tin ceilings.
Club members hope
to rebuild and already have a restoration contractor at work. It is unknown how
many of the many trophy mounts old pictures etc which hung in the club were damaged
and if they are savable.
