- Port Vue - Residential Structure Fire
1300 block New York Avenue
Port
Vue 237 and Liberty 183 were dispatched to a possible structure fire on New York
Avenue in Port Vue Borough. Police and medic units reported confirmed structure
fire, with fire showing from the front room. Engine 183-1 and Engine 237-1 arrived
on scene about the same time and crews attacked the fire from the front door.
The crews did a nice job and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Crews ventilated
by cutting a hole in the roof, the use of a PPV fan, and also some positive pressure
ventilation. Engine 161 was requested to the scene shortly into the incident.
They arrived on scene and hit the hydrant on New York Avenue and supplied Engine
183-1.
The homeowner was elderly and was assisted out
of the house before the fire spread too much without injury. One firefighter
suffered an injured wrist.
Units on scene included Engines from 237, 183,
and 161, Rescue 183, Squad 161, McKeesport EMS, Port Vue Police, Allegheny County
Fire Marshal, and the Salvation Army. Station 131 Dravosburg was put on standby
in their station by 237, and Station 147 was put on standby in their station
for 183. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
