02/24/2006 - Oakmont - Commercial Structure Fire

Plum Street

An Oakmont policeman patrolling the area along the Oakmont, Penn Hills, and Verona line along Plum Street discovered a fire in the old Verona/Woodings Tool Works. The Verona/Woodings Tool Works was famous world wide for its shovels and sledge hammers but went out of business and the buildings were converted to multiple business', including B&D detailing which was working on several classic vehicles. The classic vehicles were damaged in the fire which went to 4 alarms and brought firefighters from Oakmont, Verona, Harmar, and Penn Hills to the scene A Penn Hills Fire Officer was injured in a fall when he was responding to the station and required medical treatment. The ACFM is investigating and the owners hope to rebuild.
