Structure Fire
Dersam Avenue
Crews were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire on Dersam Avenue in Port
Vue Borough. Engine 237-1 was first unit on scene and started an aggressive attack
on the fire. Reports by neighbors stated there was an explosion. Port Vue 237
was assisted on scene by Liberty-183, Lincoln-184, and Glassport-161. Dravosburg-131
was called to the scene a couple hours into the incident to assist with overhaul.
The 400 block of Dersam was evacuated for a short period as Equitable Gas crews
feared of a gas leak. They later found no leak and most residents were allowed
back to their homes.
The fire appeared to begin in the back corner of the house and rapidly spread
into the walls and attic of the home. The official cause is under investigation
by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.
