03/29/2006 - Port Vue - Residential Structure Fire

Dersam Avenue

Crews were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire on Dersam Avenue in Port Vue Borough. Engine 237-1 was first unit on scene and started an aggressive attack on the fire. Reports by neighbors stated there was an explosion. Port Vue 237 was assisted on scene by Liberty-183, Lincoln-184, and Glassport-161. Dravosburg-131 was called to the scene a couple hours into the incident to assist with overhaul.

The 400 block of Dersam was evacuated for a short period as Equitable Gas crews feared of a gas leak. They later found no leak and most residents were allowed back to their homes.

The fire appeared to begin in the back corner of the house and rapidly spread into the walls and attic of the home. The official cause is under investigation by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.
