08/26/2006 - Penn Hills - Electrical Meter Fire

Penn Hills Shopping Center

An older style lead/lag 208/120 volt meter set caught fire behind the Radio Shack Store in Penn Hills Shopping center which serves the Radio Shack regional office and training center.

Firefighters from station 227 responded and stood by making sure the fire did not spread from the meter assembly until Duquesne Light, which responded in a slow manner, and turned off the power so it could be fully extinguished using dry powder. The meter fire could have easily caught the above roof material on fire and things could have turned very bad.
