United VFR Responds to Chalfant for Rapid Intervention Duties

On March 1st, 2010, United VFR was alerted to assist on Chalfant Street in Chalfant with their Rapid Intervention Team.  United responded with 11 volunteers and performed RIT activities and fortunately was not needed for any rescue situations.

Unity VFD Responds to Attic Fire

On February 23rd, 2010, Unity Volunteer Fire Department responded to Hulton Road for an attic fire.  Here is the report from their site:

Stations 233,235,234 and Penn Hills Truck 227 were dispatched to a possible structure fire on Hulton Rd., electrical fire in the attic. Chief 233 on scene with command, 1 story residence nothing showing. Resident reporting smoke and smoldering fire in attic space. Engine 233-2 on scene, crew to interior to investigate. Engine 235-1 on scene to hydrant at Morath Ln, hooked up supply to Engine 233-2. Truck 233 to side A, crew laddered structure. Interior crew reporting smoke and a small fire with wiring and wood joists running along attic space. Used 1.3/4″ preconnect to extinguish. Attack 234 on scene, crew assigned as RIT. Truck 227 on scene, assisted with ventilation, salvage and overhaul. Fire out all units returned.

Penn Hills Structure Fire

On February 21st, 2010, Penn Hills companies were dispatched for a possible porch fire.  When units arrived on scene they found a little more on fire than the porch.  Here is the report from Station 225’s website:

Companies were alerted for a Porch on Fire. PHPD arrived updating Smoke from the 2nd Division Possibly a Bed Room with everyone out of the Residence. Preconnects pulled from 221 SQ with crews from 221 and 122 into the first and Second Floors. 225 Truck laid 800′ of Supply line to 221 SQ. 225 Capt. took Operations. Crews Found Heavy Fire in the Basement. Fire was undercontroll in just under 45 min. Crews operated for some time with extensive overhaul and Clean up. Fire Marshall is Investigating.

Penn Hills Responds to Accident With Entrapment

On February 16th, 2010, Penn Hills stations 222 and 221 were alerted for an accident with entrapment on Nadine Road.  The crew cut out the windshield of the vehicle to free the operator.

Elizabeth Twp Fire Crews Respond to Horse Barn Collapse

On Tuesday, February 16th, 2010, another area barn collapsed.  This one in Elizabeth Twp at the Fallen Timber Stables on Fallen Timber Road.  The roof over the indoor arena portion of the stables collapsed.  Here is the report from Central VFC’s site:

At 11:22 Township Fire was alerted for a reported Barn Collapse with unknown injuries, RQ7 and EN3 responded along with Assistant 3. RQ7 arrived on scene and found a large horse barn/arena with substantial collapse, the farm owners confirmed no injuries or entrapment. RQ7, EN3 and Assistant 3 assisted with utility control and displacement of 32 horses from the attached stables to a nearby field.

Carbon VFC Responds to Head On Crash on Lincoln Highway

Carbon VFC responded to a head-on accident on February 15th, 2010 on Lincoln Highway.  Here is the report from their site:

A vehicle driving the wrong way on the Lincoln Highway caused a head-on collision involving two cars around 2030 hours (8:30PM) on Monday, February 15th, 2010. The crash sent one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The first priority for firefighters after arriving on the accident scene was to ensure that all occupants involved received the medical attention they needed. After assisting Mutual Aid paramedics with packaging and loading of the sole patient onto the ambulance, fire and rescue crews provided traffic control while the Pennsylvania State Police completed their report. Once a tow truck arrived, crews finished cleaning all debris off of the highway and personnel were then returned by Lieutenant Joe Kuhn, who had command of the incident.

Fallowfield Twp Barn Collapse/Animal Rescue

On February 15th, 2010, weight of the built up snow caused a roof to collapse on a barn at Zippay Farm in Fallowfield Twp.  A 20×50 foot roof collapsed on a barn trapping some sheep.  Crews responded and used hydraulic rescue tools to help lift the downed roof.   Police and fire units spent about 2 1/2 hours on scene and rescued 10 adult sheep and 7 baby lambs with only one sheep perishing from the collapse.
