Black Diamond Fire boots Receive The Seal Of Acceptance From The American Podiatric Medical Association
The First and Only Fire Boot to Receive the Coveted APMA Seal
WOBURN, MA (March 9, 2010) – Black Diamond is pleased to announce it is the first fire boot company to be awarded the coveted Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). The APMA Seal of Acceptance was created to inform podiatric physicians and consumers about products whose quality, safety, and effectiveness promote good foot health.
In order to qualify for the Seal products must pass a grueling scientific evaluation by a panel of APMA members and rigorous testing at a recognized laboratory. The results are then evaluated by a committee of doctors of podiatric medicine who decide to grant or deny the use of the Seal.
“We are proud to be the first fire boots to be recognized and awarded the APMA Seal of Acceptance,” said Black Diamond President, Rob Mills. ”The APMA’s efforts to promote better foot health are consistent with our efforts to build boots that will support the brave men and women in the fire service as they provide world-class support and protection to our communities.”
Black Diamond is the leader in performance protective footwear and its boots are tested in the harshest conditions on a daily basis at fire departments around the world in countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Canada and the United States of America. Utilizing proprietary footwear constructions and “best in class” components and materials such as CROSSTECH® and Ortholite®, Black Diamond builds a better boot for workers who demand all-day comfort, support and protection.

On Friday, February 12th, 2010, crews were called to RIDC Park in O’Hara Twp for a Hazardous Materials leak. Molten Sulfur was leaking from a tanker. Here is the report from Guyasuta’s website:
In the early morning rush hour Friday, Guyasuta was alerted to Sauereisen Inc. in the RIDC Industrial Park of O’Hara Township for a Hazardous Materials Leak from an offloading tanker of Molten Sulfur. Crews used the Emergency Response Guide book for safety and first response reference information. Initial crews donned SCBA in addition to their bunker gear for respiratory protection from the Sulfur. A thermal imaging camera was also used by initial crews to determine the amount of molton liquid that was still in the tank. Crews then isolated the scene and spill site for safety and relied upon the assistance of members trained to the Hazardous Materials Technician level as well as alerting Special Operations support from neighboring Pleasant Valley VFD (217). O’Hara Township EMA Director/Police Superintendent Jim Farringer had Allegheny County Emergency Services notified for the response of specialized HAZMAT Response Teams, which alerted the Allegheny County Blue Team (420) and Allegheny County Red Team (440). All crews worked effectively together for 4 hours in confining, stopping the leak, and decontaminating equipment. No injuries or contaminations were reported.
